He has appeared as Copenhagen mayoral election candidate Troels Hartmann in the drama series The Killing, Charles Augustus Magnussen in the third series of Sherlock and the Russian president Viktor Petrov in the American House of Cards on Netflix, and Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels. In 2011, he received the Reumert Prize of Honour At 27 years old He attended the National Theatre School of Denmark where he graduated in 1995. Apart from his role in the drama series aired globally under the title The Killing He was later featured in two more internationally well-known Danish dramas, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also had a prominent part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen.In the American TV show House of Cards, he played the president of Russia. In 2018, he received an International Emmy Award for his performance in the Danish TV drama Herrensveje. It was broadcast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019.
