
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, born on March 22, 1976, is an American actress. A recipient of various awards like an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has consistently ranked among the top actresses paid in the world. Time magazine and Forbes both have named her among the 100 most influential individuals around the world in both 2007 and 2015 and 2006, respectively. Forbes named her the world ?Ts wealthiest actor in 2021. Witherspoon is estimated to have a fortune of $400 million. Witherspoon made her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she played the role of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions as well as her portrayal of Tracy Flick in the black comedy Election. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001) as well as its sequel in 2003 gained her wider recognition. She was also in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) and Sweet Home Alabama, a romantic comedy. In 2005 she won an acclaim from critics and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a career decline, the only box office hit was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen in the form of a producer and played in Wild (2014). She got another Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. She has since primarily worked on television, producing and starring in several female-led literary adaptations under her company Hello Sunshine. They include the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) and The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) as well as the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). For the first of these she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. She also wrote and directed the movies Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She is a member of the board of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was appointed Global Ambassador of Avon Products in 2007, serving as honorary chair of the charitable Avon Foundation dedicated to women's causes.
